India Men's Hockey team Creates history by wining Bronze Medal after 41 year Tokyo Olympic.
What has happened ?
India has ended it's 41 year medal drought in hockey at the Olympic.
The indian men's side lead by Manpreet Singh won the bronze medal on Thursday at the Tokyo Olympic as they beat Germany in a closely tought 5-4 match at the Oi Hockey stadium in Tokyo.
The German side took an early lead due to a defensive squabble in the Indian circle when Timur Oruz nudged a ball past Sreejesh to find the opening gole in the 2nd minute.
The Continued pressing inside the Indian circle with a series of attacks inside the Indian Circle.
However,Couldn't find another gole in the first quarter.
India struggled against the odds of three successive penalty corners from Germany in the dying moment of Q1 and managed to survive all without conceding a gole.
The indian side started looking confident in the second quarter.
Simranjeet finished it off with a Sensational tomahawk , which the German goalie could't stop.
India had equalised in the 17th minute of the game.
The quarter turned out to be a roller -coaster riche.
Germany found theri second gole after a Counter -attack from the left flank found the Indian defence napping.
The Germans further their lead as Benedikt furk scored through an attack from the right .
Hardik singh Settled the score to 2-3 for India.And just before the end of Q2. India won a PC.
Harmanpreet Showcased his finesse again to rank up his sixth gole from a perfect drag flick .
The match went on to be 3-3 by half time.
Just one minute into the third quarter, India won a penalty stroke that gave india the lead
for the first time in the match
Another attack form the right flank just minutes later found Gurjant's ball safely reaching Simranjeet,who thumped again to score his second gole India was very much into the match with a 5-3 lead.
The German side earned a PC in the 48th minute and Lukas windfeder found the goal which made the Score line 5-4.
Germany win a PC just three minutes before the full time hooter but Sreejesh rose up to the Occasion and foiled the chance.
Just six seconds , Germany win another PC ,but Sreejesh did it .
The Indian hockey team last won a medal at the Olympic was back in the 1980 Moscow Games where they had won a gold Medal.
According to experts,the game of field hockey as the sporting world Known it today has its origins in Britain in the mid 1800 's.
Black heath football and Hockey club,which is now called Black heath and old Elthamians Hockey club happens to be the first professional hockey club in the world which was founded in the year 1861.
British Sports Journals Vouch for the fact that the game of hockey was even more popular than football in the 1860s and it is no surprise than that it was England and not India who first won gold at the Olympic Games in 1908.
Grate Britain,who stood stop the podium in n 1908 and 1920 never made it to a final until the London games in 1948 where they lost 0-4 to India .
A country they had ruled over for close to a Century! The Indians won gold when they first look part in 1928 and the rest is history.
But ,a 49-year Medal drought has blunted the Popularity of the sport in the Country.
